With the departure of elected governments and induction of
caretakers Najam Sethi has hold the office of Chief Minister of Punjab. He has
not only to organize
transparent elections but also to lead as an administrative incharge of the
province.
Mr. Sethi holds a Master's
degree in economics from Cambridge University, and spent two additional years there at Clare
College as a PhD research
student. Other than his educational qualification, he is well known
media personality and also considered a moderate and progressive person.
For the promotion & Protection of the rights of Children The Punjab Province remained
ignored during the last elected Government era, They did almost nothing for the
protection of the rights of children, there were not major legislative measures,
no policy change and even not bothered for the implementation on 25-A of the
Constitution.
But if the elected CM did nothing for the child rights, I believe the Selected CM of Punjab can do alot for it in His capacity.
Few things which need immediate consideration but ignored since ages;
Child Protection
Policy Punjab Social Welfare Department
Government of the Punjab has already introduced a draft of proposed Child
Protection Policy Punjab. A comprehensive session for feedback has already been
held and the after the proposed changes 2nd draft to be shared. The now Chief
Minister of Punjab can pursue to expedite the process of adoption of that
policy on priority basis after getting validation from NGOs and relevant
government departments.
Child Domestic Labour a very serious but ignored issue, 34
hazardous occupations are already banned under Employment of Children’s Act
(Amendment) 2011.If Najam Sethi orders the Secretary Labour Government of
the Punjab to issue the notification to include Child Domestic Labour in the
list of banned occupations. This administrative order can be a major step to
stop the Worst form of slavery (Child Domestic Labor)

Mr. Sethi has always been speaking for the Human
Rights. Keeping in mind Child Rights are Human Rights he must take these issue on board
which are not very big deal for Him as Chief Minister.
